New collectors create a free account and the gift applies the moment their email is verified. Members redeem the code directly — it only ever adds to what they already have.

Either is fine — with their email we deliver the gift for you. Without one you hold the code and hand it over yourself: it works like cash, so whoever redeems it first gets it, and nothing can be recovered if it's lost or passed to the wrong person. Either way we'll tell you when it's redeemed — naming the address if it's the one you gave us here, and masked if somebody else used the code.
Gift purchases are final. Once payment is confirmed and the code is issued, a gift can't be refunded — including before it's redeemed. Limited exceptions are set out in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
The code has to be redeemed within 365 days. The clock starts when the code is issued, which is when you start checkout — not when you pay, and not when the recipient opens it. The exact date is on your receipt and next to the code in your gift list. If it isn't redeemed by then the code stops working, and the payment isn't returned.
Good to know: the recipient needs a free MyHobbies account (it takes a minute to create); claiming a gift can never shorten access they already hold, and the months stack on top of any trial — though if it moves them up a plan, some of the months go towards lifting the time they already have up to it; and gifts are priced from the normal plans, so a live offer applies automatically, on whatever terms it covers there.
